Here's a recent interview I conducted (last October) with lead singer Ray Willis, of the Indianapolis based metal group 'MercyKill'. I found it a thought provoking discussion...
-MAD: What are a few of your thoughts on the current output of Hollywood and the entertainment industry, including new music? What are a few of your favorite movies that you didn’t think totally sucked ass?
-R.W.: I am not much of a movie person. It seems as the years go by, movies are losing substance. Comedy is less thought out….it’s just joke after joke with no real story or build-up. George Carlin was one of the greats of comedy.
I don’t pay much attention to the output of Hollywood. You have to look at what Hollywood is comprised of. Paris Hilton, Jennifer Love Hewitt….just to name a few. The only thing that Hollywood has accomplished as of late is that it’s cool for a woman to act like an airhead. And believe me….I have seen PLENTY of women actually putting on the act. Hollywood needs to focus on the art and the craft, and get out of the public endorsement business. Hollywood and politics gives you Al Franken, Jesse Ventura, and The Terminator. It gives you a governor’s race with a porn star, dwarf, and Conan the Barbarian. It’s a distraction from real issues. In the end….that’s all Hollywood has come to be….a mere distraction.
